Outlast built its reputation on one rule: you cannot fight. As a journalist trapped in Mount Massive Asylum with nothing but a camcorder, your only tools are running, hiding, and staying quiet.
Manage Your Batteries
Night vision drains batteries fast, so use it only in pitch-black areas and switch it off while hiding. Pick up every spare you find.
Hide Smart
Lockers and beds are safe spots, but enemies may check them if they saw you go in. Break line of sight first, then hide.
Keep Moving
Learn to look behind you while running, because knowing where a pursuer is matters more than speed. Outlast punishes hesitation, and the scariest moments usually end once you push through to the next area.
